Important Guidelines for Writing Nepali Muktak

1. Follow the Four-Line Structure

A traditional Nepali Muktak generally contains four lines. Every line should contribute to the same theme or emotion.

2. Maintain the Rhyme Scheme

Most Nepali Muktaks follow the AABA rhyme pattern:

  • A– Starting of any subject
  • A– Supporting first lines
  • B- Different lines
  • A- Ending lines
  • The 1st, 2nd and 4th lines rhyme with each other.
  • The 3rd line has a different rhyme and unique.

3. Keep One Central Emotion or Message

A good Muktak focuses on one strong feeling or idea such as:

  • Love
  • Separation
  • Motivation
  • Society
  • Pain
  • Patriotism
  • Life experiences etc.

4. Use Simple but Meaningful Language

The beauty of Muktak lies in expressing deep meanings using simple and heart-touching words.

5. Give a Strong Ending

The final line should create emotional impact, surprise or a powerful conclusion that stays in the reader’s mind.
